We use a portable battery operated ultrasonic bond tester that uses 3 different testing modes to cover a range of applications. It operates typically between 20kHz-400kHz enabling penetration through attenuating materials across multiple glue lines and sandwich cores. It is particularly effective for inspecting honeycomb and foam sandwich laminates. Bond testing is effective as a primary inspection method or as a cross check when used alongside other NDT methods. It can also be used on rougher surfaces and on more complex shapes due to dry coupling.
